Light snow, cold and breezy
A cold front moved through Kansas last night, ushering colder air
into the state along with gusty northerly winds. An upper level
disturbance is passing over southern Kansas this morning and producing
light snow across southwest Kansas, while rain and even a few rumbles of
thunder in the southeast. As this system moves along the KS/OK
state-line expect light snow to move eastward. Accumulations up to 2
inches are possible south and west of Wichita (1" or less for Wichita),
while southwest Kansas may have 2-4" on the ground by midday. A Winter Weather Advisory is in place until 6 P.M. for Kingman and Harper, while that same advisory expires at Noon for Pratt and Medicine Lodge. As
this system moves east this afternoon and tonight it will take the
moisture and clouds with it. High pressure will build into Kansas
overnight with light winds and clearing skies. Overnight lows will drop
into the 20s. That same area of high pressure moves south into
Texas by Sunday, meaning sunshine and favorable winds will produce a
much warmer day. Highs will be in the 60s to near 70.Warmer weather
is expected for Monday before the next cold front arrives on Tuesday.
The roller coaster ride of temperatures continues through the remainder
of the week.
